The protein Gluten is contained in in several products including various pasta’s, breads, pizza crusts and several cereal grains. The allergic reaction created by eating gluten, attacks the inner lining of the intestine which, over a peiod of time, can cause malnutrition because the intestine is uncapable of absorbing essential minerals and vitmains necessary to keep you healthy and fit.

The disease is, more often than not, misdiagnosed as some of the side effects can be very similar to other everyday health problems. Many of which include diarrhoea, severe weight loss, exhaustion, mouth sores, anemia, upset stomach and severe abdominal aches, and the disease can be triggered at anytime of your life by illness, trauma, infection and on some occasions pregnancy.

Upto now there is no known cure for Celiac Disease, however, sticking to a gluten free diet, will in time allow the intestine to heal itself and work properly again.

Speaking to your physician is imperative as they can prescribe you a gluten free diet. There’s now several gluten free foods on the market so your diet will remain relatively varied. Foods such as rice and potatoes are a fantastic replacement for wheat produce and lot’s of fresh vegetables and fruit, as well as fish and poultry, should also be consumed.The earlier you are diagnosed with the disease the better, as if left untreated for too long, further damage to the inner lining of the intestine will occur.
